Hod Hall Lane Travellers’ Site Consultation

by Gareth Wilson on 14 July, 2010

Important Consultation
East Cambs District Council is in the process of preparing it’s local plan called a Local Development Framework or “LDF”
Part of this includes suggestions for future Travellers’ Sites; which has to go out for consultation. This gives you a chance to have your say.

One of the possible sites is the land in Hod Hall Lane that was turned down for a Travellers Site last year when a Planning Application was submitted. Although many reasons for rejecting the planning application were put forward at the Planning meeting, the only one recorded was that the District did not require four pitches but only one more, to comply with the Regional plan up until 2011. (This regional plan (called Regional Spatial Strategy) has now been abolished by the new coalition Government.) However, East Cambs is continuing to extend it’s own plan up to the year 2025. The new consultation document is asking your views on whether you agree that the site in Hod Hall Lane should have six pitches (with up to four caravans per pitch). Quote question 11.2.

What do you think?
Other sites have been rejected because they would have a “Detrimental impact on the residential amenity of the neighbouring dwelling” or “a Detrimental impact on the character and appearance of the area” or ”Gypsies and Travellers have a desire for some separation from the settled community to retain their privacy and cultural identity” or “Site is within Flood Zone”. Do you think that any of these apply to the site in Hod Hall Lane?
Please make your view known to East Cambs District Council. You might ask why there is no reference to Travellers in the Ely Options Plan.

Preferably, if you are able, reply on-line at “www.eastcambs.gov.uk/local-development-framework/current-consultation”.
However, the paper called “Site Allocations Options Paper is a very large file.
The comments should be submitted on their
“Site Allocations Options Paper: Online questionnaire”

You can send your comments by email to ldf@eastcambs.gov.uk or by post to: Forward Planning, East Cambridgeshire District Council, The Grange, Nutholt Lane, Ely, CB7 4EE.

All comments should be submitted before 5pm on Monday 16th August 2010
