Liberal Democrat Campaigner for Haddenham & Aldreth Learn more
by Gareth Wilson on 17 April, 2009
Sir Clement Freud died on 15th April. The first I heard of this was when Radio Cambridge phoned me early Thursday morning asking for my comments. I remember an extraordinary intelligent and witty man. He was an exceptional MP for the Isle of Ely from winning a by-election in 1973 until 1987. Even today he is remembered for the help and commitment to local people. When I knock on doors I am often told of how good an MP he was. This is a remarkable legacy when you consider he was an MP more than 20 years ago.
